When the battery is mounted, first positive cable and afterwards negative cable should be connected to the battery. In order to not to interrupt the electricity of electronic computer vehicles; the system should be fed up with service battery. Fixed electrical consumption value of the system should be measured after installation of the battery.
It should be used clamp meters with sensitivity of 10 ml amperes for measurement of static electrical consumption. Clamp meter should be connected negative cable of the vehicle and the value should be measured. The value of 12 Volt systems should be 20 to 30 ampere, while it should be 60 to 80 ml amperes for 24 volt systems. If the measured value is higher than expected value, standard consumption of the vehicle is high or there is out of standard electrical consumption on the vehicle.
For example, if we consider electrical consumption value of a passenger car as 100 ml ampere; this means that, it will be received 100 ml ampere per hour energy from this battery. If vehicle remains in parking position for 24 hours namely for one day; then battery will be exposed of discharge for total of 2400 ml ampere namely 2.4 ampere per hour. If this vehicle will remain in parking position for one week without starting; in this case, the battery of the vehicle will be discharged with 16.8 ampere per hour. The loss occurred in battery can be calculated by diving discharge rate during parking to ampere hour of the battery.
If a vehicle which uses 60 ampere per hour is kept without starting during one week, this battery will be discharged by 28%. In order to avoid from such an adverse situation, especially static consumption of the vehicle should be measured during battery maintenance and controls and necessary measures should be taken in case of any non-conformity.
Charge system measurement should be performed after electrical consumption measurement. For this measurement, vehicle should be started and voltage value in idle speed as 2000 rev / min. and under open consumption should be measured. If voltage value is between 13.8 and 14.4 in all three steps; it means that charging system i.e. alternator is appropriate. But if it is out of these values, then charging system must be controlled. All this electrical system measurement controls must be done with a new battery. If the battery is on discharging state, then measured values will be different, in this case it may occur errors on measured values.
Before assembling the battery to the vehicle, mounting surface must be measured. Minimum acceptance criteria of the battery should be 12.6 Volt. If battery voltage is 12.4 and below, the use of this battery is not suitable, because this means that sulfation reaction in the battery has started. The occupancy rate of the battery is 75% or less. In this case, if the battery is mounted on the vehicle; than lifetime of the battery will decrease dramatically.
